- 12 Times the Profit
- As in any business, profitability should be one of the main concerns. Kiosk programs offer a maximum return of 10% to the retailer. They also offer a $1.00 rental, so you make $0.10 profit for each rental. If you receive 33% from ET Video on a $3.49 rental, you make a $1.15 profit per rental. As you can see you would have to do 12 times the transactions to achieve the same profitability.
- 28 day window for New Releases
- Warner, Fox and Universal studios have recently come to an agreement that will not allow most kiosk or internet companies to rent their New Releases until 28 days after the street date. Each title has a specific street date, which ET Video will have it you on that day and you can start renting it immediately. This gives your customers four weeks to enjoy the hottest titles before they would be able to with a kiosk.
- Are you really saving labor?
- Labor costs will also be an issue to look at. The kiosk provider will stress how you have no labor cost associated with their program. Though this may be somewhat true, our question to you would be: "Do you plan on laying off an employee once you place the kiosk?" In most cases the person you have assigned to take care of the DVD's is going to be located at the service counter no matter what.
- Credit Cards
- The kiosk machines all require credit cards. There are many of your customers that may not have credit cards and by requiring one you may drive this good cash customer to another location to rent. The other thing to consider is if a customer uses a debit card, it will reserve $35 on their card until the DVD is returned. This will cause many customers who rely on having minimal funds in their accounts unable to use their debit card. They possibly would have purchased additional products in your store but now they are unable to.
- Additional Inside Sales
- It is also a fact that many customers will just use the machine and walk out without making any other purchases in your store. If a customer has to use cash at your service counter, they are more likely to buy other products. One of ET Video's customer has the capability to track average basket rings which is $12.65. The rental amount was $4.69, leaving $7.96 spent on other products in the store. This customer has over 400 rental location. This also does not take in consideration the trip the customer has to make when they return the DVD.
- One customer at a time
- Besides losing the potential cash customer, you may lose a customer that cannot wait for the person ahead of them to make their selection at the kiosk. With ET Video's system, multiple customers can browse our display and make their selection without have to wait for another customer.
- R Rated movies
- You have no control over who is renting which titles from the kiosk. You must be 17 to rent a R rated movie and these is no way of verifying this on the kiosk and may become a legal issue to deal with.
- Whose problem is it?
- Another point the kiosk supplier may bring up is that you don't have to worry about all of the problems with late fees, broken movies, etc. There is some truth to this but the kiosk is in your store and they are your customers. You may not have to handle their issues but, remember who they all come to when they have problems with the pop machine, paper machine, or any other self service vending machine. With our system you can guarantee all of their problems will be addressed and taken care of.
- More than just movie rentals
- ET Video's program also offers many additional advantages such as our monthly promotions, cross promotions, gumball promotions, filling requests for your customers, prom giveaways, DVD sales, and t-shirt promotion. In most cases ET Video has customized your department to give your customers a sense that this is your program and not some generic machine that has no sense of ownership.
